Individual Sessions

My office in Berlin offers a neutral place for in-person sessions.

Experienced trauma therapist in Berlin

It can be extremely difficult making the first step toward mental health counseling, but you'll be surprised by how relieved you'll feel once you do.

The therapeutic relationship is like no other. It is a relationship with the sole purpose of helping you see yourself and your way of relating mirrored back to you. We don’t do therapy for the sake of doing therapy. Good, meaningful psychotherapy actually leads you somewhere.

We all carry with us blueprints from our families and early experiences. These blueprints form the way we see things going forward into our lives. This includes perceptions, patterns, how we cope with distress and how we relate and perceive others relating to us. Later in life these blueprints can cause us dysfunction and a feeling that we keep repeating the same patterns. The task in therapy is therefore to uncover the reasons why we carry these blueprints and see them in action within the context of the therapeutic relationship.

Good mental health counseling helps to make your own mind more knowable to you so that you can break old patterns of relating and make better choices for yourself in your life. This process also helps address defences and fears that keep us stuck and disconnected from our feelings, often the cause of distressing symptoms like anxiety and depression.

We will be always collaborating on what we are working towards and articulating treatment goals as we go along. Ultimately you are in charge of your treatment, with me making sure we are both on the same page as to the direction we going.

In therapy we should be asking ourselves how self-aware we wish to become and how much more open to life, choices and freedom we wish to be.

By slowing things down we can begin to recognize the patterns that normally happen unconsciously, automatically, and very quickly without awareness. For this reason, I highly recommend at least some in-person sessions.

Benefits of Individual Sessions:

  • Opportunity to explore yourself and emotions in a confidential space
  • A therapeutic relationship based in consistency and reliability
  • Real time feedback about your symptoms, behaviours and relating from a trained professional
  • Increased interoceptive awareness (recognizing internal sensation and reactions)
  • Practicing communication within a therapeutic framework

10 questions to ask yourself before you start therapy

How it Works:

Call

We start with a brief call to find out initially whether the therapy you are looking for is something that I can offer.

Assess

If we decide that my approach is suitable, we will then set up an initial meeting to talk about your current and past struggles more in depth. This is a chance to see what the therapy could provide going forward. The initial meeting is about 60-90 minutes and this can take 1 or more sessions. Only after this will we decide whether to begin.

Sessions

If we decide to continue, we will agree on the terms of the treatment and formulate a plan for going forward. The sessions will be at least once a week and are 50 minutes long.
